Copan for Windows desktop/netbook is a very functional and easy-to-use geomatics engineering tool for computing and managing plane land surveying and mapping coordinates. It’s completely free — no restrictions!

It does numerous coordinate geometry (COGO) calculations, processes and adjusts raw field survey data, computes and adjusts map traverse data, performs map or deed checks, calculates areas and perimeters, performs coordinate transformations, and imports/exports Ascii files.

It supports quadrant and whole-circle bearings, south-based and north-based circle bearings, and gons (or grads) as well as degrees-minutes-seconds. It supports Geodimeter, Leica, Wild, Nikon and TDS total station formats. Also, its coordinate files may be accessed by UGL’s version of Windows Free42, an HP-42S simulator program, or copied to a memory card and used directly by the Palm OS, Pocket PC and Mobile versions of Copan.

Designed for land surveyors, geodetic engineers, professionals and students, Copan for Windows —- 98, NT, 2000, ME, XP, Vista, or 7 -— is available for download, completely free of charge from UGL at or from at

Note: A valid email address is required for a password and for frequent news of updates (see

Version 10.09 (released on 2010.09.27) has various new features, including
o Coordinate transformation option added to Import / Export modules.
o Export to GeoLab IOB option added to Field modules.
o Bearing-distance conversion options added to COGO / Map Trav modules.
o Delta Z Display added to Measure tool.

    See for more information.

    Hello everyone,
I have an idea. Would the developers of the website consider organizing the resources(books and articles) in terms of year of study. I know our colleges don’t all follow the same syllabi, but if you could list the books useful to students in 2nd yr at New Delhi University, for example, it would give the website more structure, and make it more useful in the process.
